“There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.”
— | Sam, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (film) |
What's happening in Libya right now is frightening.
After Egypt.
Its too soon.
And Bahrain and Iraq and Iran.
Far too much to absorb.
And the earthquakes in New Zealand.
I read about things like this, and what I really really want to do is plug my ears, crawl under a rock and pretend nothings happening.
Pretend that the world is filled with unicorns and rainbows and everyone loves each other and we can all live happily ever after.
But thats not how its done, is it?
Thats not how you get through life, living in your own delusions.
I can ignore it if I want to.
None of this affects me directly.
And yet, I read about Libya, and I feel actual physical pain.
Actual anger.
I feel like my own rights have been trampled upon and snatched away from me.
At the end of the day its not about whether you're Libyan or Egyptian or Malaysian or any of that, is it?
At the end of the day, we're all human.
And no man is an island.
We have to stand up for each other.
What does my sitting halfway across the world, blogging about it, do to help?
Nothing.
But it spreads awareness.
All of you reading this will know that there is something happening in Libya.
You will know about the earthquakes in New Zealand.
For what its worth, some of you will be touched, outraged, upset about the number of lives being lost right at this very moment.
We cannot physically do anything right now,
but we can pray.
And there are no limits to the power of the prayer.
If we cannot do anything else, at least pray for each other.
