Tell me, did you sail across the sun?

I have 3 hours to kill before the derby tonight. :/

Steadfastly not thinking about it.

Was undecided whether to sleep first and then wake up in 2 and a 1/2 hours in time for the match (but who am I kidding, I'd sleep right through til morning),
so then I decided to get started on my CFCS report...my presentation was supposed to be this Thursday, but my partner just messaged me to tell me our presentation has been postponed,
so now I'm not in the mood to start the report.
I'm too sleepy to think straight for reports.

So since I have some time, and nothing in particular to do right now,
why not blog?
:D

Tomorrow is a public holiday!
Labor Day!
Yaaaaaay!
I'll take any excuse for a mid-week holiday.

Nothing much to blog about,
my life has just become routine and dull.
Went to JB over the weekend,
spent the whole of Saturday making
karutha aluva.
It's an Indian (malayalee?) dish, a sweetmeat made of flour and coconut milk...it's a bit like
dodol.
Takes about 3 hours of standing at the stove and stirring away while the mixture thickens (constant stirring so as to make sure it doesn't burn), but the heat has to be low enough for the flour too cook properly...hence the 3 hours.
I kid you not.
Might've taken a bit more than 3 hours to be honest.
My arm was feeling a bit sore by Saturday night, but surprisingly didn't hurt at all on Sunday.

The aluva itself was a success :D
But I don't think we'd make it again anytime soon in the next few years...takes too much effort!
And I'm not a big fan of it, never was...only helped to make it because I like cooking, and I wanted to learn.
mm-hmm.
Also learnt how to make
Unniappam (that one is my fav!), also another malayalee dessert.
I had to learn to cook something Indian!
:p

(I'm too lazy to find pictures of the foods mentioned above...you can google image them if you want)

Didn't do much on Sunday.

Didn't do much today.

But after I came back from class, I was craving cake,
and my brother and his wife have decided to be vegetarian the rest of the week (-_-) so I couldn't make a proper cake because they wouldn't be able to eat it,
and it would seem rather mean to bake a cake when I knew they were vegetarian..

So I decided to try this : Chocolate Cake In a Mug!
(thanks to Sufi, who introduced me to Sorted Food)

I love love LOVE this recipe!
So simple, and so gooooood. :3

I left out the chocolate chips, because I didn't have that at home.
And I only microwaved it for 2 minutes, but it overcooked a little bit because my microwave is quite ?high-powered (is that how you say it?) so the next time I try it again I'm going to try 1.5 minutes instead.

And listen to what he says and get right into the corners!
I thought I got all the corners, I was stirring away so meticulously,
but after it baked, there was a little bit of flour at the bottom of the mug -_-
Next time, I'm using a fork to whisk it all together instead of a spoon.

I'm also planning to add a wee bit of Nutella (or any other chocolate spread) in place of chocolate chips, the next time.

Shared it with my mother (the cake, I mean), and she loved it too!
...of course this is also most probably because it took me all of 5 minutes to make it,
and as far as she's concerned, the easier the better.
Definitely one of my fav recipes so far.

This is another version of it, for those of you who don't want chocolate :

I'm going to try out all their other recipes one by one :)

And now I'm crashing, so I might sneak in a nap (I have NO willpower I swear)
but before I end this post,

Kurt!

1. You CAN'T not love this song.
2. Alex has such a nice voice.
3. KURT. I don't know what it is, but he looked so nice in this video! His nose, his pretty hands, his serious face, his...everything :3
And I'm 90% sure that the hands playing the brown piano (what instrument is that?) belong to Kurtsy. :3
And his wannabe-cool attempt at catching the maracas at the end....awwwwww. Epic fail, but awwwwwww :3

You can't not love Kurt Schneider.

BUT HE'S MINE YOU'RE NONE OF YOU ALLOWED TO SUDDENLY PROFESS LOVE FOR HIM GO AWAY.

ok goodnight.

The Off Day

Ahh.
Today was a good day. :)

Woke up relatively early this morning (despite today being a self-declared "off day" for us) to wash my clothes in prep for the trip to JB this weekend.
(I'm going to JB to visit my cousins yay!)

And then went to McD in the morning to hang out with my two favourite people in Seremban :)
Had a pretty productive morning, after which we went to watch Mirror Mirror in MBO @ Terminal 2.
I know, I know, the movie came out so long ago...but I've had a busy past few weeks okay.

I loved it!

It was such a cute movie, silly in all the right places.
Julia Roberts was awesometh.
And the girl who played Snow White...to be very honest, when they first showed her, it was like WOAH EYEBROWS,
but then you kinda get used to the eyebrows as the movie goes on, and then when she went to live with the dwarfs she had a little fringe and that complimented the eyebrows nicely, so that made her look really pretty.
And the Prince was so adorable! So familiar too...hold on Imma google who he is and where I've seen him before.

OHMYGOD HE'S THE TWINS FROM SOCIAL NETWORK WHY ON EARTH COULDN'T I PLACE HIM!?

yes.
And the dwarves were adorable.
The wolf was not.
The wings were so....sad.

BUT SEAN BEAN.
SEAN BEAN.
AND HE DIDN'T DIE IN THIS.
AND.
SEAN BEAN.
BUT HE ONLY HAD TWO LINES.
BUT.
SEAN BEAN.
AAAAAAAH LORD EDDARD STARK MY LOVEEEE.

ahem.

Went to Popular after the movie to use up what was left of my book vouchers.
Our goverment/Education Ministry? decided to give all students book vouchers worth RM200 to spend on books/stationery ...for political reasons.
You may make your own inferences from that statement.

So anyway, I had RM100 left to use up,
...spent the first RM100 last week buying cookbooks for my mother because I simply had nothing else to buy, but decided to keep RM100 for myself.
Had to use it up today though before it expired. :/
This is probably the first time in my life I've walked into bookshops and not fallen in love with a book within the first 10 minutes.
Wanted to buy the new Sherlock Holmes novel by Anthony Horowitz, but they had such poor copies in Popular!
Creases everywhere on the covers!
-_-
Not impressed.

Finally ended up buying random stationery...coloured pens, notebooks..
..I figured if it didn't add up to 100, then I'd buy One Day (the book),
but then Sufi found John Green's The Fault In Our Stars,
and I couldn't buy the stationery, TFIOS and One Day because it overshot RM100 by quite alot, and I simply couldn't not buy the stationery now that I'd picked them out,
so ended up putting One Day right back on the shelf.

If anyone of you read One Day and it's good, lemme know? I might buy it later on if it's really worth it.

Then stopped by Body Shop,
fell in love with one of their new scents...Midnight something.
Didn't have enough money on hand to buy it (thank goodness. I'm an impulsive buyer)

Collected alot of those spray-tester-card things.
With scents sprayed on them of course.
I love it when salespeople try to get you to buy a perfume and they pretty much spray every single scent in the shop for you.
I keep all those card-things, come back home, and slot them into my favourite story books.
Does anyone else do that?
Then a few months (or years) down the road when I feel like rereading the book, I open it and there's this whiff of perfume that greets me.
:3

And now I really am too tired to construct sentences properly (which is why this post is becoming long-winded and boring) so I'm going to go sleep now before dinner.

Kuala Pilah tomorrow.
ughhhh.
WHY ON A FRIDAY WHY.

meh.

Oh

cheh.

Apparently I can switch back to the old Blogger interface (I'm sure most of you figured this out already, so just humor me ok).

This I like :D

Maroon 5's Payphone is such a nice song.
I seem to have developed a sudden inexplicable crush on Adam Levine.
I blame The Voice.

Tired

So I typed out a post here earlier today,
but I was trying to toggle with the font sizes (I HATE the new blogger layout/post options btw)
and somehow the whole thing got deleted.
Doesn't help that my internet is insaaaaanely slow and so I couldn't try and fix it at the time.

Oh well.
Maybe I'll type it all out again sometime later.
Right now its 2am, and I'm crazy tired (I always am nowadays) and I'm frustrated about the earlier post getting deleted.

meh.

Goodnight.

Semi-update

I WANT TO DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

No, not really.
I just have two exams tomorrow and I haven't studied and I'm so tired all I really want to do is crawl in a hole and sleep for the next ten years.

Let's hope I pass tomorrow, or I can add more failures to my list, eh?

Oh weekend, where art thou?

ACLS (again)

Okay, taking the ACLS resit tomorrow morning!

PRAY FOR ME YOU GUYS.
I DON'T WANT TO FAIL THIS AGAIN.

(trivia : also the first academic exam I've ever failed in my entire life. #justsaying
Which obviously makes me hate Thiru even more, but that's beside the point)

I just finished rewriting the entire manual (rearranging it so it makes sense) while listening to every BSB song I own.
Thankfully its an MCQ paper, or I'd probably end up writing the lyrics on the answer sheet instead of answering the questions properly.

I should've done this earlier, instead of studying last-minute as usual,
but where's the fun in that? ;)
Actually meant to start it last week, but ended up starting last night.
Oh well, same old, same old.

PRAY FOR MEEEEE.

Thank you :3

Tuesday 3 April 2012

It's raining!

And I'm soaking wet!

...well.
I was soaking wet, on account of having to run to my car in the rain from the cafe.

I'm all dry now, because I'm home :D

Do you notice how when people use italics, you automatically stress on the word when you're reading it in your mind?
It's involuntary.
Which is why I hate it when people use italics unnecessarily (although I am myself guilty of that offence. meh).

We'd gotten caught in the rain because we stayed back to have lunch in IMU.
Should've left immediately after we were done at the hospital, the sky was already quite dark by then.
Might've just made it back home before the downpour started.
Oh well.
Contemplated leaving my things in the car and only taking them out later when the rain had subsided, but once I reached home,
I was struck by this absolutely brilliant (see, emphasis!) idea of reversing my car into the porch, so that I could take out my things without getting them wet (the porch roof would cover the back half of the car) and then driving out again to park in my usual spot.

I don't like parking in the porch because there was always the off-chance that either of my housemates would park in front of the gate and
a) leave for uni in the other housemate's car before I woke up
b) wake up just when I want to leave for uni and delay me with the whole fuss of removing their car so I could drive mine out.

Easier to just park outside.

I'm horribly sleepy now on account of my hair getting thoroughly wet in the rain.
Wet hair tends to make me very sleepy.

Might sneak in a nap in a few minutes.
(I should be studying! ugh)

Also,
Its National Poetry Month!

Participate!
All you have to do is write one poem a day.
It can be anything from two lines to a proper, full-fledged poem...whatever it is, get writing!

I've started already, on Day 2 now.
So far I've written really silly stuff which I definitely won't be publishing here or anywhere else.
I'm actually just doing this to get myself back into the flow of creative writing.
I haven't written anything at all in so long!
I think the last time I wrote anything worth reading was back in high school.
There were a couple of times, while in medschool, that I did try my hand at stories again (I was never very good at those even back then) but they all turned out rubbish..
...although, thank you Jea Mie for layaning me and reading through them! :)

It occurred to me just now that it was National Poetry Month,
so technically it should be for just one country,
and I worried for a second that I'd be syok-sendiring by joining in too,
but then I figured NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month - in November, if I'm not mistaken) is National too,
but people all over the world join in that.

so yes.
Poetry time it is!

Okay, if I'm going to nap, then I'd better do it now.

It's somehow always easier to wake up before 4pm,
as opposed to falling asleep after 4pm and trying to wake up. That is just impossible.
Impossible!

ok.
bai.

Rant

Haven't been blogging much lately,
I seem to have lost the mood for it, but also because this whole week has been peppered with the most stupid small frustrations.

I hate how every time we don't show up to the wards, something bad happens.
It sucks.
It fucking sucks okay.
There are these few people in our group who hardly show up to anything, but they never get caught. It's when one of us don't show up that the shit hits the fan.

The one time I didn't show up to a cp in Surgery was because I fucking overslept.
People do that omg.
It's supposed to be a negligible first-time offence, if every one else in the group shows up.
When the same fucking people who have been skipping every damn cp that they don't present in, are absent too, then of course the lecturer notices that you're also missing.
And then there are complaints, the course coordinator gets involved, yada yada.
All because I fucking overslept.
You see how ridiculous this is?

And today, we only have ward work.
So of course I tell my mum I can take her to the doctor today because I'm free. And no one else at home is.
And of course today is also the day that most of the group decides not to show up, pissing off the highly flammable Prof Moti,
who now wants to see us all tomorrow.

Seriously.
We screwed up Surgery, do we really need to build up the bad rep again for Paeds?

And the most annoying part is how whenever I or the other two have to skip for a legit reason, that's when something major happens.
That's when the lecturers notice.

See how when so many people are absent, my "I had to take my mother to the doctor's" reason becomes just another excuse?

ugh.
I am so so so pissed off right now.
Really.

And I'm sorry this blog has turned into a platform for me to rant endlessly, instead of blogging about my daily life like everybody else.
I need this ranting space okay.
